  • Delayed speech in childhood
  • Abnormal childhood language
  • Difficulty swallowing resulting from trauma, stroke, or following surgery

  • Speech that is difficult to understand, such as dysarthria

What To Expect

As a patient of Jefferson's Outpatient Speech Therapy program in New Jersey, you'll undergo a thorough diagnostic evaluation. From there, a treatment plan—incorporating patient/family education and necessary follow-up services—is developed. Your treatment plan will be closely supervised and re-evaluated every 30 days to monitor success and ensure the most effective modalities are used.

Some of the diagnostic and treatment services for Speech Therapy include:

  • One-on-one speech and swallowing training and repetitive exercises
  • Use of specialized devices that can make it easier to speak or swallow, such as an electro larynx or neuromuscular electrical stimulation device
  • Dysphagia (swallowing) evaluation and treatment
  • Voice therapy to remediate disorders in vocal quality, volume, and resonance
  • Language therapy to improve comprehension and expression
