In 2013, Jefferson Washington Township Hospital achieved Comprehensive Stroke Center Designation through the State of NJ.

Jefferson Washington Township Hospital also achieved the highest recognition for quality and speed, Get with the Guidelines ®- Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus. This award recognizes 85% or higher adherence to quality indicators for two or more years, and measures the ability to increase the speed of administering the clot busting medication- IV Alteplase (tPA).

Clinical Outcomes

Our stroke volume  and outcome data is publically reported according to the  Joint Commission’s Quality Performance Measure Standards.  This data reflects stoke admissions to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital for Neuroscience in NJ. Jefferson Health as a health system admits close to 5,000 stroke patients per year at all hospital locations making us one of the largest health systems in the US treating and caring for stroke patients.

Treatment rates for acute ischemic stroke remains low in the United States. Approximately 3-5 percent of all strokes receive treatment utilizing IV Alteplase (tPA). Our rate for endovascular treatment utilizing mechanical thrombectomy was 5.2% in 2017 and 7.6% in 2018.
