The Inspiration Behind the Maressa Center
The Maressa family is no stranger to life with MS. In 1994, Julian Maressa, DO, received his diagnosis, which he kept to himself for many years.
Over the years, Julian, his brothers Joseph A. Maressa Jr., Esq. and Anthony, as well as his sister JoLynne, have learned how essential stress reduction is in managing the disease. With this in mind, Joseph – a member of the Jefferson Health – New Jersey Board of Directors and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees – envisioned an innovative, comforting, and educational program in which anyone with MS could come and spend the day with people who walk similar paths in life.
Their father, Joseph A. Maressa Sr., Esq., of Camden, New Jersey, was a well-known local businessman, family man, community advocate, public servant, and philanthropist. Prominent lawyer and politician, he founded his Camden-based law firm in 1953. In 1971, he moved to Berlin, NJ, where he founded Lower County Realty Abstract Company (now Title America).
Maressa Sr. also sat on the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors for Jefferson Health –New Jersey for more than 35 years. He played a pivotal role in the expansion of the Cherry Hill, Washington Township Hospital, and Stratford Hospital campuses.
Maressa Jr. earned his B.A. in business and pre-law at Rowan University in 1982. After graduating, he joined his father’s business, where he maintained his duties while obtaining his law degree at Widener University School of Law. In 1996, Maressa Jr. was named President and CEO of Title America.
The obligation to serve his community was instilled in him by his father.
