Julie Magallanes-Montone, DO, is a family and obesity medicine physician at Jefferson Health. Board-certified in obesity medicine, she has been studying in the field of obesity since 2014.
Prior to practicing as a physician, Dr. Montone worked in research, starting in 2002, as a student at Pasadena Community College in Southern California. As a graduate of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, she performed environmental research and obtained a degree in biochemistry. Later, at the University of Pennsylvania, she researched metabolism and type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Montone completed medical school at UMDNJ-Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2015. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Inspira and went on to develop her service in family and obesity medicine at Spectrum Health. In this role, she helped to reduce provider burnout and improve the understanding of the patient-provider relationship.
Dr. Montone is a George L. Engel award recipient for her dedication to mental health and how it contributes to overall well-being. She continues to train on motivational interviewing and obesity medicine to help best serve her patients. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages to help them reach their health goals. When she’s not at work, she is a loving wife and mother of two, who enjoys spending time exercising, meditating, and gardening.
