Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center – Washington Township Installs New Linear Accelerator for Radiation Treatment
The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center – Washington Township recently received a special delivery to its Radiation Oncology department — its second, state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam™ linear accelerator (LINAC) for delivering high-energy X-rays to cancerous tumors or lesions.
“We are extremely excited to add the new LINAC to our complement of state-of-the-art technology available to our patients,” says Tamara A. LaCouture, MD, Medical Director of
Oncology Services. “This will allow us to offer the latest advances in the delivery of radiation treatment.”
The new LINAC is expected to be ready for patient use this spring; it will offer a safe and effective treatment option for patients by delivering image-guided and intensity-modulated radiation therapies, including stereotactic radiation, that can target an exact location with precision, thereby sparing healthy tissue and minimizing side effects.
The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center – Washington Township continues to advance available treatment options to achieve the best possible outcomes. Since 2012, more than 2,000 patients have received LINAC radiation treatments at the Sewell, NJ-based Cancer Center.
Robert Davis, Vice President of Product Lines, says, “We are excited to bring this technology to the community and expand the services we offer in South Jersey. Our ability to offer flexible scheduling in our patient-centered environment will minimize the impact that treatment may have on our patients’ daily lives.”
