Maressa Center Moment: Acupuncture Soothes MS Participant's Persistent Leg Pain

February 18, 2020

Karen Wahl, 55, of Mount Ephraim, was diagnosed with MS in 2003. For years, she has suffered with severe pain in her left thigh, which has hindered her walking, sleeping, and everyday life.

Recently, she attended a retreat at the Maressa Center for MS Wellness, at Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital, and tried acupuncture for the very first time. Read about her experience below:

“Imagine having a constant, fist-sized kink in your leg that just won’t let up. This is just one complication I live with. Sometimes, I cry myself to sleep, the pain is so bad.

After I tried acupuncture, I was SHOCKED at what happened a few hours later – the pain was almost entirely gone! This is the first time in a long time I have been pain free. I forgot what it felt like. It has made each day easier. My family has even noticed that I’ve been walking better.

Acupuncture is something I could never afford before, as insurance doesn’t cover it. I can’t believe it’s included in such an amazing, FREE program. The retreats are so informative and helpful. I’ve especially enjoyed practicing new meditation techniques.

I can’t thank the Maressa family, Jefferson Health New Jersey staff, and Kim Clements, the acupuncturist, enough. They’ve created a program that is an awesome blessing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
