Jefferson Health - New Jersey's Katherine Fritzsche Honored with Nursing DAISY Award
Jefferson Health - New Jersey Home Care nurse Katherine Fritzsche, RN, was recently honored with a nursing DAISY Award for compassionate and skillful care. She was presented the award by Chief Nursing Officer Helene Burns, DPN, RN, NE-BC, shown left.
A recent patient nomination singled out the Pittsgrove, NJ, resident for her "above and beyond" attitude: "Katherine is a true example of a DAISY nurse. She has been my wound care nurse since February. With every encounter, she is kind, caring, and provides excellent care. She collaborates with my surgeon to keep me healthy and at home. Recently, I was not feeling well and there was a concern I developed cellulitis in my leg. Katherine FaceTimed my doctor and saved me an ER visit. She went out of her way to ensure that proper lab tests were completed. I was so impressed that she was able to draw my blood on the first stick — she was outstanding! Katherine embodies both the art and science of nursing."
Part of an international program, DAISY honorees are nominated by patients, family members, and colleagues for demonstrating excellence through clinical expertise, extraordinary compassionate care, and a high level of professionalism. DAISY Award winners are chosen following a review of nominations by Jefferson’s Clinical Recognition Committee in New Jersey. The nonprofit DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of an auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique way of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
