Jefferson Family Health Services Gives the Gift of Learning with 3rd Annual Book Bag Giveaway
No child should be deprived of the necessary tools for continuing their education. Items like notebooks, pencils, and rulers, are the building blocks to their success in school!
On August 28, Jefferson Family Health Services (FHS) kicked off their “Helping Hands to Health” Back-to-School Book Bag Giveaway.
Starting in 2017, at the end of each summer, Jefferson FHS has rounded up new book bags, filled them with supplies for the upcoming school year, and distributed them to patients and their children, who may not have had the means to obtain them.
At their 3rd annual giveaway, 200 book bags will be distributed at each FHS location – Somerdale and Washington Township. Local wide-eyed students, from Pre-K through High School, received book bags stuffed with helpful items geared toward their unique age group.
Jefferson FHS has been able to give away more than 900 book bags since 2017.
“We are 100 percent committed to serving our patients and the community,” said Felicia Nesmith-Cunningham, Corporate Director of Family Health Services. “Providing these free book bags to those who may be struggling to make ends meet helps significantly reduce the cost of preparing for the new school year. Our children, parents, and community members always look forward to this giveaway!”
During the giveaway, Jefferson FHS also promoted its “Reach Out and Read” program – funded by generous grants from Investors Foundation and Roma Bank Community Foundation – by giving a new book to the “little ones.” The program, established in 2014, has helped more than 7,000 families by giving children a book at routine health checkups to take home and learn from.
Book bags may continue to be picked up at Somerdale and Washington Township locations by those who are eligible until September 13, while supplies last.
