Helene Burns Discusses Value of Developing Leadership Skills at ONL NJ Workshop

Helene Burns, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nurse Executive and Vice President of Clinical Services, recently spoke at the Organization of Nurse Leaders, New Jersey (ONL NJ) Nurse Leader & Aspiring Nurse Leader Workshop, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” at the New Jersey Hospital Association’s (NJHA) Conference and Event Center in Princeton.

Being the first to present, Helene welcomed the more than 100 nurse leaders and aspiring nurse leader attendees, and followed by leading a discussion on developing leadership skills. Helene’s presentation focused on the importance of:

  • Describing leadership styles
  • Defining attributes of great leaders
  • Identifying the role of emotional intelligence in leadership development
  • Describing authentic leadership in nursing
  • Explaining the value of nursing leadership development.

Since 1971, ONL NJ has provided nursing leaders a united voice in representing nursing administration and management in all practice settings. ONL NJ, affiliated with NJHA and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), is committed to ongoing professional development, creating and sustaining formal and informal nursing mentorship opportunities at all levels, and mapping the future of safe patient care delivery in NJ.
