Gloucester County Freeholders Donate Harm Reduction Kits to Jefferson Washington Township

June 6, 2019

The Emergency Department at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital received 100 Harm Reduction & Recovery Kits from the Gloucester County Freeholders on Wednesday for those who have overdosed and have used Narcan®. Jefferson’s Washington Township ER, the ER at Inspira Medical Center - Woodbury, and Gloucester County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) each received 100 kits at a presentation held at EMS headquarters in Woodbury. The kits contain generic Narcan nasal spray packs, along with resource materials for those seeking help to break the cycle of addiction.

The hospitals and Gloucester County Department of Health will provide follow-up to patients who receive the kits. A similar program, funded by the Camden County Freeholders, is in place at Jefferson’s Cherry Hill and Stratford hospitals. Dr. Jim Baird, Assistant Director of Jefferson Washington Township Hospital’s Emergency Department, played a key part in getting the project off the ground, and said he was “pleased to partner with the county to provide another resource to help fight the opioid epidemic.” Gloucester County Freeholders Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco said, “This initiative is designed to provide opioid users and their families with educational information and resource materials surrounding overdose recognition, prevention and treatment options.”
