Chris: A Success Story

November 27, 2019

Not unlike many bariatric patients, my weight loss journey started many years prior to my surgery.

I tried just about everything, including weight loss pills, WW (formerly Weight Watchers) multiple times, gym memberships, community Zumba classes, and, of course, dieting. I ate carrots and rice cakes like it was my job! At one point, I even attended a bariatric surgery seminar, but thought to myself, “You don’t need that. You can lose weight on your own. Why be so drastic?”

From there, I reverted back to a lifestyle of remaining sedentary and overindulging. I was going through a lot of personal problems (cue the emotional eating), and I was not in the right frame of mind to know what to do or how to do it.

Last spring is when I decided I needed to take back my life. I needed to get back to smiling; get back to a daily routine of healthy eating; get off the water pill and blood pressure medication.

I signed up for another bariatric surgery seminar, and this time I was all in.

I met with Dr. Marc Neff and Cheri Leahy, RDN, CSOWM, and right away, I knew it was the best decision I could have ever made. Dr. Neff and his staff were incredible; they helped me navigate the process and made sure I had the knowledge and materials needed to be successful.

I had my surgery November 9 of last year, and it not only changed my life, it saved it! I’m off all my prescription medications. I lost 76 pounds! I attend the monthly bariatric support groups and weekly exercise classes that Jefferson Health New Jersey offers. (They set you up for success!) I’m grateful to sit down with a group of happy, healthy, supportive, and non-judgmental people sharing a similar, yet unique, life-changing experience.

I would like to thank Dr. Neff, his wonderful staff, and my great dietitian. I could not have done this without their support and guidance, which has continued almost a year after surgery.
